Kate Fisher Tutoring started in 2023 because we think good tutoring actually changes how students see themselves. We’re a small team of tutors who care about your kid as much as you do.
Kate grew up in Englewood, NJ, and graduated cum laude from Horace Mann School, where she remains an active member of the Alumni Council. Private tutoring isn’t Kate’s side hustle. She deliberately chose to pursue it as a full-time career because she loves teaching and values the relationships she builds with students and their families.
Kate has worked with thousands of students since beginning her tutoring career as an undergraduate at NYU in 2008. She started at Kaplan Test Prep, where she taught ACT, SAT, and SHSAT in both in-person and online classrooms. By 2010, she expanded to include ISEE, SSAT, AP exams, SAT Subject Tests, and admissions consulting.
In 2013, Kate became a full-time instructor teaching and tutoring throughout the tristate area. Beyond training part-time tutors and developing teaching materials, she taught and tutored low-income students through partnerships with the NYC Department of Education. In 2014, she was promoted to manager of content and curriculum, leading product and course revisions for the 2015 PSAT and 2016 SAT test changes.
After returning to tutoring full-time, Kate joined an elite boutique firm in 2016, quickly becoming one of their most requested tutors. From 2020 to 2022, she served as their top-grossing tutor, Director of School Partnerships, and trained other tutors to work with neurodiverse students. She also singlehandedly wrote the company’s e-book on Executive Function during this period.
In early 2023, Kate brought together a team of tutors she trusts and founded Kate Fisher Tutoring. She currently sits on the board of the National Test Prep Association.
Kate has volunteered with children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder since childhood. She holds a Professional Certificate in Learning Differences (LD) and Neurodiversity with a Specialization in Executive Function through the Landmark College Institute for Research & Training.
We’re often asked “How many hours will this take?” or “What kind of score improvement can I expect?” We’re all about individualized prep. Every student is different and deserves a plan built for them.
We work around athletics, extracurriculars, and school schedules because we believe testing is just one part of a well-rounded application, and a well-rounded life.
Most of our families find us through word of mouth. We earn trust by doing great work and getting to know the families we work with.
In 2026, we became the test prep partner for The Next Lap, a college readiness program run by the Bronx Burners, a nonprofit run club that supports young people in the Bronx on the track and in the classroom. The program pairs a small cohort of high school students with long-term college prep support, funded by the club's scholarship program, through the end of senior year.
We lead the SAT side of the program: diagnostic testing, in-person group workshops on math, reading, and writing strategy, and one-on-one tutoring for every student, taught from workbooks we built specifically for this cohort.
We believe individualized prep should reach students whose families can't write the check for it, and partnerships like this one are how we act on that. If your school or organization wants to bring test prep to your students, we'd love to talk.
We’d love to hear about your student and how we can help.
